Onboard or plugged-in does not matter. If it shows up in lspci, it is good enough. There are plenty of PCI devices onboard. If it does not show up in lspci, you have to figure out yourself what driver it needs, and specify that in dhcpd.conf. If it is not supported, plug another card in.
