I've heard of problems with versions of flex. I'm currently using
version 2.5.4 on RH and it works fine.
Try 2.5.4a or 2.5.4, and then get into the lbe/lbe-src directory,
and run this:
./build --clean --only=modutils
./build --only=modutils
See if it builds ok.
