We had similar problems with mozilla in the past.
You're best bet is to use a different browser:

1) you can use konqueror, set it up, and then let $HOME/.kde do the work
2) If you want mozilla abilities, use epiphany (the new gnome browser).
Galeon and epiphany both use the mozilla backends to render, but the
gnome configuration system to store their profiles (which doesn't have
mozilla's bugs) however galeon has some severe bugs under thin-client
usage (it will quickly and easily chew up all the system resources),
epiphany seems to be the best solution for shared browser profiles under
LTSP at this stage.

Since you are not using KDE I would recommend epiphany over konqueror as
that does not need to preload all the KDE desktop libs (using konqueror
outside kde uses very nearly as much resources as running KDE in the
first place).

PS. Why don't you drop by the SchoolNet Namibia offices sometime and see
the OpenLab distribution in action ? It does everything
you are talking about. It is already free (as in speech) and right now
we are working on a free as in beer community edition which will be
available to everyone within a few weeks (at the most).
