Well, I changed now to the latest stable version from icewm.org - no change, 
still no successfull login. Here is what I wrote to the RULE mailinglist:

This is what I did first today, unfortunatly for me, it did not change anything, 
so I have now exactly the same problem with RH9-anacondainstalled which I had 
with RH9-slinkyinstalled before. So I guess slinky and its specially adapted 
packages are out of discussion.
