If you don't have any opportunity to have dhcp service on your network, you are facing the administrative nightmare of non-upgradable, not easily replacable workstations. However, I'll lineout to ways how to achieve LTSP-similar "one server" feeling. a/ Install a mini distro to each workstation. Give them fixed IP-addresses. b/ Use the ltsp-wireless-kit. You need to modify the initrd linuxrc script so that it does not run dhclient but assign a fixed IP. For every single workstation. Both ways are far from desirable, as you have a wired connection anyway. Are you sure that broadcasts cannot be enabled? I'm not sure, perhaps even broadcasts in direction towards the DHCP server would be needed... My brain just doesn't tell me how exactly the DHCP protocol was specified. Without broadcasts at all, you'd lack a lot of comfort...! Perhaps, with some real diving into the subject, you could modify etherboot to use the DHCP server's MAC address right from the beginning (which would nail you to have this ethernet board forever inside the tftp server), and modify the dhclient in the initrd the same way, but this probably will bring you other lots of trouble. I'd not rely on this method to work reliably anyway.
