Joseph,

we've recently overcame this problem through the provision of some scripts
which create a semaphore file named <USERNAME> in a directory named 'logins'
for database sessions and additional scripts which lock a user out based on
login sessions. We control these through the users .bash_profile on the
server.

The initlal login script for databases does the following:

if [ -r logins/$LOGNAME ]
then
echo "You have already logged into the system"
sleep 2
exit
fi

# Create lock file
touch logins/$LOGNAME

If we wish to lock out a user system wide and restrict him/her to one
session on the machine we do the following in the users bash_profile:

number=`who | grep $LOGNAME | wc -l`
if [ $number != "1" ]
then

Hope this Helps.
