Gents! Thanks for the suggestions.

Which etherboot version do you use? As you have mknbi-1.4.0-made image
(recent LTSP images should be mknbi-1.4.0-made, so you most probably have
just one of them), you should try etherboot 5.2.x (5.2.4 for example). I guess you have 5.0.8 or prior currently?
We're using etherboot images 5.2.2; I get the same result with 5.2.4 too. (We use 5.2.2 simpley because I have these to hand rather than
having to download them.

Try grabbing the ltsp_kernel-3.0.15 package from the ltsp.org download page.
Install that, and change the 'filename' entry in your dhcpd.conf file to point to '/lts/vmlinuz-2.4.24-ltsp-4', instead of vmlinuz.ltsp.
We are using the version from k12ltsp which includes the 2.4.24 kernel. I will, however try your suggestion, but I don't believe it will make any difference.
You say you tried 'option-129 "mem=32M"', but did you also include an option-128 line, with the special value of 'e4:45:74:68:00:00' ?
Oh yes, absolutely.
Also, setting NFS-Swap at this point is useless. Your kernel hasn't gotten far enough to do anything with nfs swap.
I though as much.

From my experience this is memory problem. Look at BIOS settings, Is the display card built into motherboard? If yes that could be taking more memory for display.
Like you, I'm sure it's a memory problem. The graphics card is not built into the motherboard. I'd like to try adding more memory to the clients, but all four slots are full (with a whole 32MB). I'm pretty sure Noah used these computers and like most schools we're strapped for cash and so I have to make them work as is. I'll have to see if I can borrow some bigger memory chips from somewhere; pinkies crossed that I can find some of the correct type (parity, etc).
Has anyone else got any ideas of how to crack this one? I do hate it when computers hang without telling you what they are trying to do.
Thanks again!
