Purely as a guess, I wonder if the client has the correct userland tools
to deal with 2.6.x modules. The module structure changed between 2.4 and
2.6 and most QM_MODULES errors I've seen have to do with using 2.4-era
modutils against a 2.6-era kernel. What used to be modutils is now
module-init-tools, so you might poke around to see if you're still using
the older package. In any event, I'm sure Jim or someone else more
knowledgeable will be around with a definitive answer shortly.

Also, you *really* need 2.6 on the client? Some kind of weird local
devices or something?
