Rick,

With LTSP-4 and newer, you shouldn't need to set the XSERVER to anything
other than 'auto'.

You might be running into a problem with getltscfg. there was a bug in
ltsp-4.0, that has been fixed in 4.1.
You can get the updated getltscfg program by doing this:

  wget http://www.ltsp.org/getltscfg

Drop that file into /opt/ltsp/i386/bin
and make sure it is executable.

If you are still having trouble, send me a copy of your lts.conf file.

Thanks,

Hello, I work for the USCensus Bureau and am currently evaluating LTSP as part of a desktop pilot for one of our user divisions. I am running LTSP 4.0 on SuSE 9.1. I am running a Jammin thin client along side a Term-150e. The LTSP installation is pretty basic. I have made no modifications to lts.conf except for what I've added trying to get the Jammin to work. The Term-150e worked right out of the box. All I had to do was put it in dhcpd.conf and tell it what file to boot. It appears to be working just fine. The Jammin, on the other hand, comes up and lets me log in, but I have to do this by hand. If I try to select my user id from the list, it blows up. Once I am in, most programs will blow ht e system up if I try to run them. I have modified lts.conf so that the client will use XF86_5530 as the xserver and added the mode line for 1024x768 from the modelines file for the Jammin client available from your download site, but about the only change I can see in its behavior is that at login, if I click on my user id, it now just hangs and doesn't blow up. When I added the mode line (for 1027x768) I started getting parse errors, though it would still bring up the login box. When I changed to the mode line for 800x600 the video went wierd and nothing was useable. If anyone has any idea what's happening with this, I'd appreciate hearing it. Thanks.

Jim,

Based on what you wrote above, I plugged my Jammin box into the active lab here where I have ltsp 4.1 set up. It worked the first time, but not the second time. I have this server, like all my Linux servers, set up to authenticate to LDAP. So, when I tried to log on from the thin client, the session blew up, I'm guessing because there was no pam information in /etc/pam.d to tell it what to do or create home directories. However, now the box won't connect to kdm at all, and I'm back at the gray screen I've had with this before on other boxes. Any ideas?
