I've had periodic crashes with Jammin-125 terminal, and sometimes the terminal won't even go all the way into runlevel 5 (meaning that it reports to syslog that it's entering runlevel 5 but never actually brings up X on the client). In these cases, I must reboot the Jammin several times to get a good boot.
Troubleshooting reveals that each crash is coincidental with excessive ip fragmentation as monitored with tethereal on the server. On good boots, there is little or no fragmentation.
I've seen other posts reporting crashes with the Jammin; do others see the same ip fragmentation at crash time?
I'm currently using ltsp4.1 on fedora core 2 but have experienced the same problems on previous versions
of ltsp and red hat.
Paul, excessive IP fragmentation indicates misconfiguration or hardware problems. In your situation, I would suspect that a network switch was failing.
Interesting.
My upgrade to LTSP 4.1 coincided with a change of switches. Silly me, I just thought something was screwy with the kernel and/or the video drivers.
I have also experienced the same symptoms as Paul (e.g, system freezing right before it switches to runlevel 5).
Paul, what would be the correct way to capture and analyze the network traffic to determine the amount of IP fragmentation? Just run ethereal and caputre all IP traffic? For what would I be looking?
Thanks in advance...
