What were result of memtest as suggested by Jim?
I had recently run memtest of a server that was showing some thing
similar behaviour (main difference it would also lock up without any
client connected but user logged in from console). The results showed
errors and the memtest would lock up particularly when switching low
memory range to higher side for testing the low range at almost end of
any test and before starting the next test. If I ran single test
everything would be fine. Changing memory resulted in machine running
without a break for last two weeks and of course memtest running without
error.
Of course the hardware vendor is not amused and all he says is that
memory is okay as running it on win machine has not shown any adverse
result ....yet!!
