Well, after a bit more digging around, here's what I
found:

The 'X-term' laptop seem to be booting quite hapilly,
until, the following messages appear on the 'X-term',
my LTE5280 laptop;

******************* ON X-TERM ************************
Startup cardmgr...
Oct 9 01:31:06 cardmgr[35]: starting, vertion is
3.1.31
Oct 9 01:31:06 cardmgr[35]: watching 2 sockets
Oct 9 01:31:06 cardmgr[35]: Card Services release does
not match

ERROR! No dhcpcd-eth0.info file.
This usually indicates that dhclient did not
get a response from the DHCP server, or the NIC driver
isn't working properly with the network card.

Kenel panic: Attempted to kill init!

(ed: and then the process freezes.)

*******************************************************
I was hoping the problem was a simple mis-recognition
of MAC addressess - this is the only way I fixed
problems in the past. IT does not look like this is
the case anymore.

Cheers
