X doesn't use TCP, it uses UDP (AFAIK). You should probably use a wrapper of some kind, either SSH or NX (nomachine.com) to wrap the X UDP commands in an encrypted (and, in the case of NX, compressed) TCP channel. Example (sshd on server must be configured to accept X tunneling): ssh -X IP_ADDRESS You log in in text mode, but can then start graphical programs and they pop up in your own X server. You can probably try to run the Xsession scripts to get a full session. But to get the full graphical login etc. you might need to use NX instead of SSH. (I haven't used NX, so can't give example). SSH, BTW, uses port 22. To have port forwarding work (ie X) there might be more ports you must open, consult "man ssh". // Dag Sverre ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business?
