I have a test system with LTSP 4.0 running on Fedora Core 1. Using the Linksys NICs from DisklessWorkstation.com. The hub lights show a constant flashing between the server and client which would seem to indicate network traffic. Is that normal? Do the server and client carry on a constant chat? I have not run any packet sniffers so do not know what the server and client are chatting about. As I build out more clients do I have to plan for a lot of this network traffic? Or should I be looking for a configuration error somewhere?

This is perfectly normal. Not to worry!

Very simplified the server generates the screens to be shown on the client, that creates netwrok traffic. Also, since there is no local disk on the clients, their root file system resides on the server physically. Whenever the client needs to do things from its root file system it might trigger network traffic also.

If you capture packets, you will see a lot of X traffic plus some NFS.
