Before logon, our thin clients display a blank screen after some time 
interval.  Press return and the X login box is displayed.  Not a screen saver 
but it does save the monitor (err more about this later).  After login, ie 
when desktop is displayed, you can configure the screen saver but experience 
has shown that it hammers the server.  Maybe screen saver should run as a 
local application?  I must investigate this one day.  Currently we run a 
nightly cron job which resets backgrounds and switches off screen savers on 
all of the user accounts.

Wider issue.  Do we really need to run screen savers these days?  I can.t say 
that I've noticed any monitors with a picture permanently etched into the 
phoshor like we used to see.  I'd be surprised if a TFT monitor suffers any 
burn (I have no experience with these - we can't afford them).
