Hey all, I just want to report that I've been able to build the entire LBE on a Debian server with a 2.6 kernel.
Ragnar Wisloff reported last week that he's had no problem on his server with a 2.6 kernel, whereas many of us have had lots of trouble. Well, it turns out that you need the 'gettext' package installed on your server. Otherwise, several packages, like bison, fileutils, sh-utils and a few others detect that you don't have gettext, and I think they use their own implementation of those functions, which fails miserably. I also needed to install libncurses5-dev and zlib1g-dev. Once I did that, I was able to do a complete build of LBE, with no problems at all. I figured this out with Ragnar's help. he sent me the complete list of packages installed on his system. I compared that with the packages on my system, and the first thing that jumped out at me was gettext. I suspect that others having trouble on other non-Debian systems would also be successful, if they make sure they have those packages installed, before building. I can't tell you how frustrating it was, not being able to build the LBE. Especially for me, the guy who wrote the darned thing!! :) So, to summarize, I installed the following packages on my Deb-testing box: gettext 0.14.1-6 libncurses5-dev 5.4-4 zlib1g-dev 1.2.2-3 Jim McQuillan [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
