Hello,
The Promise Raid controller is the onboard 20378 one.
It is a software raid. The 2.4 kernel module made it
look like a true raid to the os but the 2.6 kernel
module views it just as 2 separate disks so we have to
set up s/w raid manually which is working quite ok
actually.
So back to the selection of OS? Which one is better
""server"" OS if there is any such differentiation?

I'm not one of the experts, but if you're talking
about a SATA RAID
controller (hardware RAID), you'd do well to check if
the particular
controller you're using is supported and works well.

We were looking at getting the Promise FastTrak S150
SX4, but having it
work with SUSE 9.x wasn't/isn't quite ready yet (they
are/were testing
beta drivers).
