Given that you have the time to experiment:

Try to mount the SMB shares manually and see if it helps. If it does, put
it in a script that can be run on thinclient startup and shutdown.

A change in how samba shares are set up might help: There's a small
modification to /etc/rc.localdev in the mailing list archives (I think
about october, give or take) which puts all devices behind one samba
share, instead of one share per device.

Patrick: The post pretty much only referred to
http://www.fredtun.no/ltsp/index.htm ... this is my little pet. It works
well in testing, however it hasn't been that much in use yet (the next
time I will get a chance to get back to this one is in january, and
unless you have a little time to waste I guess you shouldn't do it...but
have a look anyways).
