Thanks, but I flush iptables before connecting the server to WS01 so
that eth1 is seen as a trusted interface,
and it previously worked .. xdmcp may have been affected by a
graphically complex e-card I opened on WS01
after Dec 25th. I don't understand why I'm getting the message

'syslogd: Cannot write remote file handle on 192.168.0.1:514'

just before Xserver starts but hangs with grey screen and a moveable
cursor.
