Alex,
Thanks for your response. I only have a few comments.
1) Regarding the converter not converting too well, I thought I covered that
base when I booted up the iPaq under Knoppix (proving that the
iPaq/converter/Linux combo *does* work) and also with the converter on my
server (proving that the server/target OS combo will accept the converter).
This only leaves the LTSP software - which is a Red Hat variant (as is the
Fedora running on the server) - as the source of the problem. It intrigues me
that my server (under Fedora Core 1, a Red Hat variant) has *no* difficulty
with the converter, the iPaq running Knoppix 3.4 (a Debian variant) has *no*
difficulty with the converter, but my iPaq *does* have problems with the
converter under LTSP 4.1 (a Red Hat variant)...
2) I agree that in the best of all worlds I would have USB peripherals, but I
live in the real world and cannot afford to burn money. I`ve got plenty of PS/2
keyboards and mice around here, but the only unit around here that *requires*
USB is the iPaq, so it`s difficult for me to justify spending money on USP
stuff at present. (side note: my wife wasnt terribly pleased when I bought the
USB<>PS/2 converter and it was far cheaper than a PS/2 mouse alone - its not
as though this personal project is likely to put any food on the table any time
soon).
3) You do not mention whether or not your configuration is one or more iPaqs
running as clients in an LTSP setup. Is this so?

Again, thanks for responding.

I use a usb mouse into a usb keyboard with an inbuilt usb hub (IBM) and all is
well sounds like the converter doesnt convert too well! Why not get a USB
mouse they are very cheap!

Subject: [Ltsp-discuss] Odd USB mouse behavior

Im running my first testdrive of LTSP with a server running Fedora Core 1 and
a Compaq iPAQ v1.0 Legacy-free (500MHz Celeron, 64MB).
As I dont have any USP peripherals at the moment (the iPaq has *no* ports for
regular PS/2 keyboards or mice - only USB ports), I picked up a nifty
USB-to-(dual)PS/2 adapter for the iPaq which allows both a keyboard and a mouse
to be mounted to a single USB port. This device is detected properly and works
perfectly when I boot the iPaq with its own hard drive (Ive got Knoppix
installed), as well as on the server. The mouse in question is a scroll mouse.
However, under LTSP (4.1, by the way), when the client finishes booting up
(i.e., KDE is displaying its login screen and everything seems to be normal
otherwise), side-to-side mouse movement results in up-and-down cursor movement
and up-and-down mouse movement has no effect at all. Button presses seem to
move the cursor incrementally to the right. The USB-to-PS/2 adapter is
apparently recognised (I see it mentioned on the screen as the client
initializes) and is at least partially working properly because I have no
trouble with the keyboard
I have tried various protocols ("PS/2", "IMPS/2"), various devices
("/dev/psaux", "/dev/input/mice"), as well as forcing modules to be loaded
mentioned in other discussions (which is redundant as they seem to be there, as
Jim indicated they should be in other discussions) - all with no discernable
effect.
I would reproduce lts.conf, except that (a) I dont have it handy, and (b)
there is nothing in there that is special - the client configuration is
basically stock except for a SCREEN line at the end allowing me access to the
command shell.
Im at my wits end, so even off-the-wall ideas would be appreciated.
