Hi Folks
I have been fiddling with NAS on LTSP for awhile. I sort of having it working but not quite there yet which prompted this post.
I have followed Richard June 's article, Configuring ARTS to work with LTSP servers and terminals and another article, LTSP arts Howto, both can be found on http://www.bravegnuworld.com/~rjune/ltsp/audio/
However, I can't quite follow Richard's instructions on Configuring ARTS. I have compiled and built NAS, recompile arts to recognize the presence of NAS. By default the compiled binary is installed on /usr/local/KDE which is not being picked up by the system start up. However, I set the install directory to overwriter the original artsd binary. I don't follow steps on reinstalling NAS for LTSP, point iv. In which he asks readers to run ltspadmin to install ltsp_core.
I use auplay to play KDE_Startup.wav and the music plays on my terminal. It looks like NAS is working properly on the thin client.
I open kde-control-centre and go to the sound I/O tab and I change the I/O method to nas. This is a sign that artsd is recompiled successfully and recognise NAS. And I checked every box on the tab there except for 'Enable network transparency' and 'Exchange security and reference info over X11 server'.
And test the sound by pressing the button. Nothing heard from the terminal.
I kill the artsd process and start it using the command console and also increase the debug level. If I click the test button. The console has shown "play /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Start.wav" and also gives output when it is finished. However, no sound can be heard. Same as Xmms, I can see output and arts seems to be receiving input from the appls but somehow it is not sent to the terminal.
Can anyone point me to the right direction in diagnose this problem.
