Slackware 10.0 is a great foundation for LTSP. I've not used LTSP on any other distributions, but we've used Slackware solely since we started out LTSP project, about a year ago now, and its excellent.
I got started with Linux years ago with Slackware 3, so when it came time to getting back into Linux, Slackware was my first choice. We recently had 30 clients going on our latest server for a weekend event we did, and the server didnt bat an eyelash.
Only problem with Slack is that the default graphical components (gnome/kde applications) are not that well integrated. So I if you need a good looking and seamless desktop experience you should also install dropline-gnome on top of Slack. Also - automatic mounting of samba partitions and floppy drives are always problematic because of the default security settings on a Slack distro.
Perhaps the easiest and most convenient would be to have al look at openlab (http://direqlearn.org/olce) which is built on Slack - although I haven't tried it yet.
