What I can ensure is that the same nic is working fine in another Type of 
machine (Pentium 233) with leaving everything else unchanged (Switch & 
network settings on the server).
So its 100% the combination of Pentium I 90 Mhz cients (HP Vectra XU) und the 
3c905c NICs. I have also tried different NICs. Always the same.
It works fine in faster machines, but causes problems in the Pentium I 
machines.

everything works fine, when I use the same cards in other terminals.
