Or set the machine(s) up to automatically send you an (e. g. encrypted) mail with its/their current IP, perhaps with a script?

You might check what remote admin features the D-Link router has. SSH?
afraid.org offers free dynamic dns services and is fairly easy to setup. A number of scripts are available to automatically update the ip address based on a cron job. I have been really impressed with it but I have only been using it for a short time.
