Any other errors before that one?

Also, make sure you have enough disk space.  Building the LBE chews up
about 5.5gb of space.

Finally, make sure you've installed the required packages for Debian.
check the wiki:  http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/LBE#Debian

I use Debian Sarge as my main development machine, so I know for sure
that it does build on sarge.
