I use raid1 and sata disks on single bastion type servers (one server for a group of users). Perhaps something else would be better in a HA cluster sort of setup.
I even had a disk failure a couple of months ago. I changed the disk at lunchtime and the users didn't even notice. :) you might want to look at this too. http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ Chris.
