For what it's worth, I'm seeing exactly the same problem after
installing Ubuntu 5.10 and configuring LTSP, with the client
a Compaq Evo desktop, standard US PS2 keyboard and PS2 mouse.
And despite having been on the Internet since, well, the days of
Bitnet, I still have absolutely no IRC fu.  I imagine I could
get it quickly, but if any answers were to make their way back
to this list, that'd be super great.  And I'd be happy to do
whatever testing or further investigation anyone needs; I'm just
rather at a loss on my own here.

Also I have no idea what this means:
