Hello,

NASD Sound server does not start on my workstation, I see the following boot
messages :

---------------------------------------------------------
Fatal Server Error:
could not create audio connection block info

and then

aumix: error opening mixer
---------------------------------------------------------

What is missing ???

I am using LTSP with kernel 2.6.9 with Mandrake 10 (kernel 2.6.8) on the
server. I have a worstation on a DELL machine (which has a cs4236 sound
board).

content of lts.conf:
---------------------------------------------------------
[Default]
        SERVER             = 192.168.0.2
        XSERVER            = auto
        X_MOUSE_PROTOCOL   = "PS/2"
        X_MOUSE_DEVICE     = "/dev/psaux"
        X_MOUSE_RESOLUTION = 400
        X_MOUSE_BUTTONS    = 3
        USE_XFS            = N
        SCREEN_01          = startx
        SOUND              = Y
        SOUND_DAEMON       = nasd
        SMODULE_01         = snd-cs4236
        XkbLayout          = fr_CH
---------------------------------------------------------

Correctly the sound board seems to be ok (no messages about the board
driver at startup).

I have added modprobe.devfs and modprobe.conf in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc (content
taken from setup on the workstation when used as a standalone machine)

content of modprobe.conf
---------------------------------------------------------
alias eth0 3c59x
install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe uhci-hcd; /bin/true

options snd device_mode=0666
alias snd-card-0 snd-cs4236
alias sound-slot-0 snd-cs4236
options snd-cs4236 port=0x530 cport=0x538 isapnp=0 dma1=0 dma2=1 irq=7
---------------------------------------------------------

Using ESD sound server, I get the following boot messages on my workstation

Running Sound Server
pnp: Device 01:01.00 activated
pnp: Device 01:01.02 activated
pnp: Device 01:01.03 activated
- accepting connections on port 16001
/dev/dsp: No such file or directory
aumix: error opening mixer

Before trying with kernel 2.6.8, I first used NASD sound server with ltsp
kernel 2.4 and a sb.o driver. Sound worked but was very bad.

I decided to find the correct driver and happened to find I should move to
using ltsp 2.6.9 kernel.

Thanks for your help !
