Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting a local printer to work on my ltsp server running 4.1.1 and Libranet 3.0. I think it might be a problem with cups, but I could be wrong. I've tried two printers; here's what I've done, and the results:

The printer is configured in lts.conf like so:
PRINTER_0_DEVICE   =   /dev/lp0
PRINTER_0_TYPE   =   P

With the first printer (a Samsung ML-4500) I could telnet to the workstation at 192.168.0.9 port 9100, and when I hit CTRL+L to make it print/feed, it would make a noise but would neither print nor feed the paper through. Just to test if it was a printer or other hardware problem, I booted into Knoppix on the workstation, set up the printer as a local printer, and it worked perfectly. However, when I added it as a cups printer on the server, (as a JetDirect printer to socket://192.168.0.9:9100, nothing would happen at all when I tried printing.

Next I tried an HP Laserjet 1100, and when I telnetted to it, I could make it print and feed by hitting CTRL+L. However, it acts the same way as the Samsung when I try it through cups: nothing. I have two network printers configured in cups, and they work just fine. Can anybody give me advice on what to try next? I'm stumped.

Thanks,
Cindy
