You have to switch on the logging on the server. I can't tell from your
note, so check that something like "/sbin/syslogd -r" appears when you do a
"ps xa". Networking issues could prevent it from working, though.

Have you tried it connected on the other network? That's a place to start 
looking for trouble.

Forget this line of inquiry - you're failing during the bootloading of the 
clients kernel - it's not an X issue.

Maybe you should try thinstation.org for a means of checking whether there 
is a problem not related to loading over the network card. You need both a 
bootable CD drive and a floppy to do it.

I doubt you can check this - no shell to type in a command at.

Do you mean /etc/hosts.allow? That's the place to do that, AFAIK.
