After some searching for partly random errors on some of the terminals, I found that fuse on my server doesn't run anymore.
Originally I had got it running and it produced a number of new swap files for the clients. I just don't remember how I set it up then. These swapfiles haven't changed since July 1, however. So I tried "modprobe fuse" and got "module fuse not found". In my downloads directory I found that I had tried some rpm and a tgz with a source of it back in May. So I newly compiled the thing and installed it from scratch. Now I could type "modprobe fuse" without any error message which should mean it's up and running, shouldn't it? Nevertheless, when I boot one of the critical clients, I get a message like "there will be now swap!" during booting, and as a result KDE doesn't come up completely. In the docs I find hints for other distros, but nothing really helpful for my case. On this server, there is an older Suse 9.1 running. So I would be happy to have any of your ideas where to start looking for this problem. Good night to everyone!
