Arthur,

I'd start by turning off Local device support.  Also, you are specifying 
both the old local devs (LOCAL_DEVICE_01 is the old way).

Turn off SOUND too. and, with that much ram, turn off NBD swap.  Just go 
for the simplest configuration possible.  See if that works.  Then, 
start turning on the features you want until you figure out what's 
borking things.

If you are still having trouble, please let us know which distro you are 
using.
