For quite some while now I've experiencing a strange problem with a number of clients which all have older 4 MB Matrox cards (AGP).
SOMEtimes (i. e. about at 10 % on average) during boot they crash and just show something which looks like a flying carpet pattern. This does not happen when starting into X but earlier, when Tux is about to appear. A crashing machine doesn't appear in the list of active terminals, so it seems they really crash completely. There are 22 computers of this make standing in the lab, all of them showing this phenomenon once in while. When I switch on all of them, about 2 of them will crash randomly on average. Any idea what might cause this? Maybe it has nothing to do with the graphics cards but with RAM or the PCI bus?
