eerrrr... you lost me here...host? Are you meaning thin client?

Yes.

Laserjet4 hanging off a parallel cable from the server itself, but you
can't print to an identical LJ4 from any of the hosts. We've switched
hosts, printers, cables, all to no avail. We've tinkered with the
printcap to no end and have tried putting printing params in lts.conf in
both the [default] section and in host-specific sub-sections. Nothing

Which distro? Tried with Firewall / SELinux disabled? Does the print
job land up in queue? Is your client having fixed IP through dhcp
everytime? and is reverse lookup working (usually by use of
IP/Hostname pairs in /etc/hosts) ?

I can't believe I neglected to mention this but, there it is. This is SuSE-9.0. There is no firewall on the network; it's all internal. The clients use fixed IP addresses within dhcp (assigned in dhcp.conf) every time. The lease is current and I can ping by IP or client name. Can you send/post me a cut of that portion of your lts.conf that covers printers on the thin clients?

works. Weither this is a terribly deep problem or it's staring me in the
face and I'm too close to see it. What things can cause this sort of
behavior? I'd specifically like some pointers on lts.conf, since that is
where I think I've messed up.

HP-Laserjet4 works nicely as printer for our network attached to a
thin client (host?).

Yes, they're Checker cabs really. Or maybe Wollensak reel-to-reels :)

thanks,
