Have a look at http://ltsp.org/contrib/autologin_kdm.html As I understand it, you need to be running KDM, the KDE Display Manager, not GDM, but it doesn't matter if you use the Gnome or KDE *desktop* with KDM. Thus, using the settings below, and configuring the kdmrc file as mentioned on the ltsp website, you should be able to have specific client machines automatically login under a specific ID and have a Gnome desktop.
