Frank,

On some monitor/videocard combinations, it is sometimes necessary to 
specify a horizontal sync rate, otherwise you end up with 1280x960 
instead of 1280x1024.

Try adding the following to your lts.conf file:

    X_HORZSYNC = "60-70"
