For kdm, you add lines like this in kdmrc (usually located in /etc/ X11/xdm/ on RedHat systems, varies on others):
[X-ws001:0-Core] AutoLoginEnable=true AutoLoginUser=user_name AutoLoginPass=user_password The workstation name, the part after X- (X-ws001 in the above example), must match the one that is in your DNS or hosts file entry for that machine. Make sure no one but root can read kdmrc.
