I use usb keyboard and mouse on some TC, heres what i use in lts.conf
The OP does not have problem with normal usb keyboard mice but specifically
those with wireess models which come with single usb connector.
which works fine for usb keyboard and mouse, but not unfortunately the
usb (mouse) trackball built into some small factor keyboards i have,
with these and the above options all i get is up + down even when moving
the ball side to side, I have used an XF86Config that works fine with
these on the server and can also confirm that they work fine when
booting DSL on the TC. I guess they just may not work on the TC using
LTSP.
I had posted to list the information below but itis held for moderator
approval since the headers are suspicious. May be of help to you.

I had posted this on the list a few days back. What is happening is that the
device needs to get recognised as hiddev rather than usbmouse. If the module
for usbmouse gets loaded first then this mouse only will vertically up and
down. Once in a while the things work because the hiddev module gets loaded
before usbmouse.
What you need to do.
1. There is no special line needed as the mouse will be automatically
recognised.
2. You need to edit the file /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/rc.sysinit and add a section
for recognising the HIDDEV before the probe for usbmouse. To do this change
the following section:
echo "Checking for USB keyboard and mouse..."
for MODULE in input usbmouse usbkbd; do
modprobe ${MODULE} >/dev/null 2>&1
done
Change this to:
echo "Loading for USBHID..."
for MODULE in input usbhid hiddev; do
modprobe ${MODULE} >/dev/null 2>&1
done
wait 1
echo "Checking for USB keyboard and mouse..."
for MODULE in input usbmouse usbkbd; do
modprobe ${MODULE} >/dev/null 2>&1
done
This ensures that usbhid and hiddev modules get loaded first and then all
things work. HTH
