It sounds as if the second monitor is 'out of range'.
I don't know radeon setup, on nvidia:

    Option "TwinView" "1"
    Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync"     "30-82"
    Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh"   "60-75"
    Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024,1280x1024;"

So on your CentOS try to specify rates for both monitors, then clone your 
xorg.conf file.
