We're running Ubuntu 6.10 with LTSP 5. I've had to use the VESA driver with
our thin clients because of incompatibility with some applications. Because of
this, the graphics are choppy and hurts the eyes. I decided to enable XDMCP
for GDM and use SCREEN_07 = startx. I was able to log in to my desktop and
everything worked great, including sound, while the graphical performance was
significantly faster.

The problem is that I lose some of the convenient features of using LDM such as
the "Off" button at the login screen that turns off the thin client with a
mouse click and the fact that the logout button only has "Log Off, Switch User,
Lock Screen" for options because right now, using XDMCP, the hibernate button
is available and clicking it wreaks havoc on the server.

My question is, how can I implement these things when using GDM/XDMCP:
- Quit button contains only Log Off, Lock Screen, Switch User?
- How to power down the thin client without powering down the server or
pressing and holding the power button (similar functionality of LDM)?

Is there an easier way to disable SSH to speed up the thin client performance
with LTSP 5 than opting for XDMCP instead of LDM?
