We've got an FC6 server running LTSP. On one of our terminals, anyone
logging in gets a "KDE seems to be already running on this display."
message, which then does not proceed any further. This is continuing
even though we turned the client off, and back on.
This seems to come from the "kcheckrunning" program, called in
/usr/bin/startkde thusly:
# Check if a KDE session already is running
if kcheckrunning >/dev/null 2>&1; then
echo "KDE seems to be already running on this display."
xmessage -geometry 500x100 "KDE seems to be already running on
this display." > /dev/null 2>/dev/null
exit 1
fi
The kcheckrunning program itself seems fairly simple, but I don't know
what it's actually checking for!:
#*include* *<X11/Xlib.h>*
*int* *main*()
{
Display* dpy = XOpenDisplay( NULL );
*if*( dpy == NULL )
*return* 1;
Atom atom = XInternAtom( dpy, *"_KDE_RUNNING"*, False );
*return* XGetSelectionOwner( dpy, atom ) != None ? 0 : 1;
}
Does anyone know what the problem is, and how to fix it? Alternatively,
would it be fairly safe to comment this check our of startkde, at least
for the moment? TIA.
Ken
