The next challenge is how to get my scanner working with LTSP 5 and Debian
Etch.

Here is a step-by-step solution that work's for me.

Note: This is a description for a scanner physically connected to a terminal
(not to the server).

I put it in the LTSP - wiki:

http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Debian#Scanning_with_LTSP_5_and_Debian

A little note:

I was very close to switching back to LTSP 4.2 in the last few weeks (due to
the printing and scanning problems with LTSP 5 & ETCH). But at least I think
the LTSP 5 approach is the right way. I am very sure that this will give us
more possibilities and flexibility in the future.
Example: I am just working on a LTSP5/GiantDisc - configuration (a mp3-player
that uses a LTSP5-client soundcard, controlled by a wifi palm-device -> see
www.giantdisc.org) and therefore it is very comfortable to use the standard
Debian package tools for the LTSP5 - client - configuration.

So far I am happy now. LTSP 5 is working well, printer and scanner are
running.

So long!

Juergen
