Funny, that was my same thought.  The only reason I tried pam_mount is because 
it was
the suggested way I found from the edubuntu wiki
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Ltsp-Local-Apps.  I don't know why they suggested this 
way but I
figured there was good reason and gave it a try.  But I will probably try the 
/etc/fstab
in the interim.  I just figured it wasn't worth the effort if I couldn't get 
the app to
launch any faster.
