The way I did it was to shrink the XP partition by just a little bit. All you need is a few MB for a ext2 partition at the end of the drive. You can do this with a live cd like gparted. Then see this http://k12ltsp.org/mediawiki/index.php/Technical:Booting:Client:LiLo but don't put lilo on mbr of hda but rather on the new ext2 partition. Then follow this http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Dual_Boot_from_Windows_Bootloader_(NTLDR)_and_why#Fooling_Windows_2 you may have to adapt it slightly but it should provide enough info to work. I did it this way so I know it works. But I have to say it's a lot of work for just booting. I would have prefered just to buy etherboot bootroms from diskless workstations and be done with it. Then simply choose your boot device from the a bios menu. (usually something like F10) Or (if students don't require floppies) install the floppies in the case internally and put lilo on the floppy.
