Hi,

I'm running into something rather bizarre I'm hoping someone can shed
some light on.

Using LTSP on a CentOS 4 (RHES 4) server, with X11 and GDM.

We have 11 kiosks, and 9 out of 11 are booting up off of the LTSP
server just fine. They are set to auto login, and are automatically
launching Firefox to view a webpage.

However 2 of the 11 kiosks hang at the LTSP login screen. I just have
to click "OK" (don't even have to enter a username), and they log in
as the right user. I've tried rebooting them at least 5 times in a row
at their normal locations but each time they sit at the login prompt.
However the other 9 kiosks don't need OK to be clicked, they fully
auto-login just fine.

The weird thing is, if I bring the two bad kiosks up to my desk and
boot them up on the same exact network, they auto login just fine, OK
doesn't have to be clicked. I guess they enjoy making me haul ladders
around to click OK for them when they're up in their normal location
up in the ceiling.

I used the same keyboard/mouse setup (PS/2 keyboard, USB mouse) at my
desk to test with as they're using normally. Actually the other 9
kiosks which are working ok don't even have a mouse connected, just a
keyboard, but I've tried leaving USB mice connected to these 2 bad
ones and it doesn't help other than make it easier to click OK. I
can't think of what else is changing between booting these up at my
desk and booting them up downstairs though. They are connected to
different switches but the networking is definitely working since its
PXE booting and firing up Linux fine to begin with, and they even
launch the browser correctly and show the webpage fine, once I click
OK.

In my gdm.conf:

AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=/usr/bin/autologin.sh|
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=/usr/bin/autologin.sh|
TimedLoginDelay=5

autologin.sh:

#!/bin/bash
echo `date` >> /tmp/autologin.log
HOSTNAME=`echo ${DISPLAY} | cut -f1 -d: | awk -F . {' print $1 '}`
echo $HOSTNAME
exit 0

The same lts.conf default config is used by all servers. I do have a
one special section in the config for a different kiosk to use XSERVER
= auto but its not having this issue.

Thanks for any input!
Jeremy
