In my use and in my understanding of identd, it is run only on the
terminal server---unless you have local apps.

I have identd running on a LTSP 4.2 Fedora 8 terminal server.  The
dansguardian web proxy connects to identd to figure out which user is
accessing the proxy.  If I were running local apps (and I am not), I could
guess which user is which by the terminal's IP address.
