The chroot contains only a base system for Xwindow, unless you add
software in, but in "normal" situation you shouldn't.
Generaly, there is no need to upgrade very often. 
If you want to check:
chroot /opt/ltsp/i386
aptitude update
aptitude upgrade

If the content of the chroot change, you will need to launch
the various ltsp-update-*
