Hello group,

I have been operating a small classroom server with six clients using
Edubuntu for the past year. With Edubuntu 7.04, each client showed
floppy and cdrom icons on the desktop and could access those devices,
but I was never able to get a plug-in USB stick to show up on the
clients. Recently, I did an upgrade to Edubuntu 7.10 through update
manager and followed all of the client build steps, etc.

My clients now have the same local devices problem I have seen mentioned
elsewhere. That is, the first client to log in gets a floppy icon on
the desktop, but none of the rest of the clients do. Happily, this same
client now gets a USB drive icon on the destop and can access the plug
in usb drive. I no longer get a cdrom icon on the desktop on any
clients. Trying to access the local drives through "places" or devices
just presents the server's drives.

I have all of the fuse packages installed and working and all of the
users are members of the fuse group. I have also set local devices to
true in the lts.conf file. I have tried to research the problem on
Ubuntu wiki and mailing lists, but I don't yet find any solutions to
this local device problem.

Anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions? Thanks very much.
