Fred,

Regarding :6 in the command line you mentioned... That is just an example used
by the person writing the wiki. For instance I used the instructions here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=42941&page=3&highlight=killinitclients
 written by poster Devi0s.

In it, there is a line referring to the very same thing as the instructions you
provided:

"/usr/bin/x11vnc -rfbauth /etc/x11vnc.pass -o /tmp/x11vnc.log -forever -bg
-rfbport 5900"

The 5900 refers to a port that vnc operates on, I imagine the person who wrote
the wiki you followed wanted :6 or 5906 to represent his/hers vnc connection.
Such as when connecting to a remote desktop vncviewer hostname:6

As it so happens :6 or 5906 can be replaced by 5900 or :0 and you wouldn't even
have to type the colon and number after the hostname.

Vncviewer hostname --that's it.

Also, as mentioned by Thomas, Ctrl+Alt+F7 has nothing to do with vnc and should
not be associated with what you are trying to accomplish here.

I hope this helps clarify.

Chris

Thanks for all these answers, but I don't see again why this works like that :(
