that driver should actually get autodetected at least in ltsp5 ...
you can force its loading through putting via-velocity into the
initramfs' modules file (/opt/ltsp/i386/etc/initramfs-tools/modules) and
running update-initramfs -u inside the chroot, this way the module will
be loaded no matter what the autodetection does (filing a bug for your
distros kernel/udev would be helpful to solve the situation next
release)
